Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 6 cups sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine flour and butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball.
  4. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  5. Roll out half the dough on a floured surface and place in pie pan.
  6. In another bowl, mix apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  7. Pour apple mixture into pie crust.
  8. Roll out remaining dough and cover the pie. Seal edges.
  9. Cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  10. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 35 to 45 minutes.
