- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out puff pastry and cut into heart shapes.
- Heat milk in a saucepan until warm.
- Whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl.
- Slowly add warm milk, whisking constantly.
- Return mixture to saucepan and cook until thickened.
- Stir in vanilla and butter, then let cool.
- Place custard in the center of half the pastry hearts.
- Brush edges with egg wash and cover with remaining hearts.
- Press edges to seal and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
Notes
- Chill pastry before baking for flakier results.
- Use a piping bag for neat custard filling.
