Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out puff pastry and cut into heart shapes.
  3. Heat milk in a saucepan until warm.
  4. Whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl.
  5. Slowly add warm milk, whisking constantly.
  6. Return mixture to saucepan and cook until thickened.
  7. Stir in vanilla and butter, then let cool.
  8. Place custard in the center of half the pastry hearts.
  9. Brush edges with egg wash and cover with remaining hearts.
  10. Press edges to seal and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
