Ingredients

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/4 cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well blended. Add milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. In a large bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In another bowl, combine cooled egg mixture with mascarpone cheese until smooth. Gently fold in whipped cream until fully incorporated.
  3. In a shallow dish, combine coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Quickly dip ladyfingers into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them.
  4. In a 9×13 inch dish, layer half of the dipped ladyfingers, followed by half of the mascarpone mixture. Repeat layers, finishing with mascarpone on top.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  6. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings, if desired.

Notes

  • For a stronger coffee flavor, increase the amount of coffee used.
  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to the mascarpone mixture.
  • Tiramisu can be made a day in advance for better flavor development.
