Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Beat egg yolks and sugar until thick.
  2. Heat milk in a saucepan and slowly pour into egg mixture.
  3. Return mixture to saucepan and cook until thickened.
  4. Let cool then stir in mascarpone.
  5. Whip cream and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  6. Fold whipped cream into mascarpone mixture.
  7. Mix coffee and liqueur in a shallow dish.
  8. Dip ladyfingers briefly in coffee mixture.
  9. Arrange soaked ladyfingers in a single layer.
  10. Spread half the mascarpone mixture over ladyfingers.
  11. Repeat layers ending with mascarpone.
  12. Dust top with cocoa powder.
  13. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours before serving.
