A classic dessert featuring layers of fluffy shortcake, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup heavy cream, plus more for brushing
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons sugar (for strawberries)
- Whipped cream, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times until smooth.
- Roll out to about 1-inch thickness and cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter.
- Place on a baking sheet and brush the tops with additional heavy cream.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool.
- In a separate bowl, toss sliced strawberries with sugar and let sit for 10 minutes.
- To assemble, slice the shortcakes in half, layer with strawberries, and top with whipped cream.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a teaspoon of almond extract to the shortcake dough.
- You can use store-bought whipped cream for convenience.
