Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup Milk
  • 1 pound Breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup Flour
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • to taste Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the milk until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently 3-4 times.
  6. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle and cut out biscuits using a round cutter.
  7. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush tops with milk.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While the biscuits are baking, cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
  10. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine.
  11. Gradually add the milk, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens.
  12. Season with black pepper and salt to taste.
  13. Serve the hot biscuits topped with the sausage gravy.

Notes

  • For extra flaky biscuits, handle the dough as little as possible.
