Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls Fluffy & Irresistible for 12 Perfect Servings

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, warm milk, granulated sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  2. Gradually add the flour and salt to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar with milk until smooth.
  11. Once the rolls are done, drizzle the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve.

Notes

  • For extra fluffiness, let the dough rise overnight in the refrigerator.
  • Feel free to add nuts or raisins for added texture and flavor.
