Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup active sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, warm milk, granulated sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the flour and salt to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar with milk until smooth.
- Once the rolls are done, drizzle the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve.
Notes
- For extra fluffiness, let the dough rise overnight in the refrigerator.
- Feel free to add nuts or raisins for added texture and flavor.
