- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds (for topping)
Instructions
- Mix sourdough starter, flour, salt, sugar, and warm water in a bowl.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape them into bagels.
- Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda.
- Boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Brush bagels with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For a chewier bagel, add more flour if necessary.
- Allow bagels to cool before cutting.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
