Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sourdough starter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Mix sourdough starter, flour, salt, sugar, and warm water in a bowl.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape them into bagels.
  5. Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda.
  6. Boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes on each side.
  7. Brush bagels with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a chewier bagel, add more flour if necessary.
  • Allow bagels to cool before cutting.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
