Description
Deliciously flaky and buttery, these classic scones are perfect for breakfast or tea time.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon Baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup Milk
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 1 Egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, mix the milk and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the flour and butter mixture. Stir until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into wedges or use a round cutter to cut out scones. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider mixing in chocolate chips, dried fruits, or nuts before baking.
- These scones are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
