Description
A healthier version of candy apples, made with natural sweeteners and wholesome ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples
- 1 cup (200g) coconut sugar
- 1/2 cup (120ml) maple syrup
- 1/2 cup (120ml) water
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 6 wooden candy apple sticks or sturdy lollipop sticks
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Parchment paper or silicone baking mat
Instructions
- Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and spraying it lightly with non-stick cooking spray.
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any wax. Insert the sticks into the stem ends of the apples.
- In a medium saucepan, combine coconut sugar, maple syrup, and water. Stir until combined.
- Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil without stirring. Use a wet pastry brush to clean the sides of the pan.
- Continue boiling until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage), which takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Once at temperature, remove from heat and stir in cinnamon.
- Let the bubbles settle for 1 to 2 minutes before dipping the apples.
- Dip each apple into the syrup, letting the excess drip off. Place the coated apples stick-side up on the prepared sheet.
- Allow the apples to cool completely at room temperature before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the syrup reaches 300°F for a hard coating.
- Let the bubbles settle before dipping to avoid a textured finish.
- Store at room temperature and consume within 1 to 2 days for best texture.
