- 8 cups cubed bread (day-old works best)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast for 10 minutes until slightly dry.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add onion, celery, and garlic. Cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
- In a large bowl, combine toasted bread cubes and the herb mixture.
- Gradually add broth, mixing until the bread absorbs the liquid.
- Transfer to a greased baking dish and bake for 30 minutes until golden.
Notes
- For a crispier top, broil for the last 2 minutes.
- Use gluten-free bread for a gluten-free version.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
