- 1 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, cornstarch, and milk until smooth.
- Slowly pour the warm orange mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into dessert cups and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
- Serve chilled with additional orange zest on top for garnish.
Notes
- For a more intense orange flavor, use blood oranges or add a splash of orange liqueur.
- This dessert pairs beautifully with a dollop of whipped cream or fresh berries.
