Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, sliced into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions into rings and separate them.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, salt, paprika, and black pepper.
  3. Dip each onion ring into the buttermilk, then dredge in the flour mixture until coated.
  4. Next, dip the floured onion ring back into the buttermilk and then coat with breadcrumbs.
  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add garlic powder or cayenne pepper to the flour mixture.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before adding the onion rings to ensure they fry properly.
