Description
This creamy mashed potatoes recipe is a perfect side dish for any meal. It’s fluffy, buttery, and full of flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet, peeled and cubed)
- 1/2 cup butter (unsalted, cut into pieces)
- 1/2 cup milk (whole milk or heavy cream)
- to taste salt (for boiling and seasoning)
- to taste pepper (freshly ground)
- 2 cloves garlic (optional, minced for flavor)
Instructions
- Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
- Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Allow them to sit for 1-2 minutes to let off steam.
- Add the butter, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic (if using) to the pot with the potatoes.
- Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve warm, garnished with additional butter if desired.
Notes
- For extra creamy mashed potatoes, use a hand mixer to blend the potatoes until smooth.
- Feel free to add sour cream or cream cheese for a different flavor.
- You can also mix in herbs like chives or parsley for added freshness.
