- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried rosemary
- 1 lemon, quartered
- 1 onion, quartered
- 4 cloves garlic
- 2 cups chicken or turkey broth
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove giblets and neck from the turkey cavity.
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Mix softened butter with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary.
- Rub the butter mixture evenly over the turkey, including under the skin.
- Stuff the cavity with lemon, onion, and garlic.
- Place the turkey breast-side up on a roasting rack in a roasting pan.
- Pour broth into the bottom of the pan.
- Roast for about 3 to 3.5 hours, basting every 30 minutes.
- Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should reach 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
