Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Pita bread or flatbreads, for serving
- Toppings: sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, pickles, tahini sauce, and fresh parsley
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, olive oil, yogurt, and lemon juice. Mix well.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring every piece is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for the best flavor.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) or prepare a grill. If using an oven, line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
- Spread the marinated beef evenly on the baking sheet or grill. Make sure not to overcrowd the pieces to ensure they get crispy.
- Bake or grill the beef for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the edges are crispy and the meat is cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let the beef rest for a few minutes before slicing it into smaller pieces or strips.
- To assemble, place the beef on pita bread or flatbreads and top with cucumbers, tomatoes, pickles, tahini sauce, and fresh parsley.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your perfectly crispy and flavorful beef shawarma!
Notes
- For extra crispiness, broil the beef for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
- Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste preferences.
- Leftover beef shawarma can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
