Description
Make your own homemade cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving with this simple recipe. Fresh cranberries, sugar, and a touch of citrus create a sweet-tart condiment that pairs perfectly with turkey and other holiday dishes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz fresh cranberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1 tbsp orange juice
Instructions
- Rinse the cranberries and pick out any stems or bad berries.
- In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Add cranberries, orange zest, and orange juice. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and let cool. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve. Can be made up to 3 days in advance.
Notes
- Adjust sugar to taste if you prefer a tarter or sweeter sauce.
- For a spiced version, add a cinnamon stick or a pinch of ground cloves.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
