- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 30 minutes until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and shape each piece into a pretzel shape.
- Boil each pretzel in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel with the egg wash and sprinkle with your chosen toppings.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the pretzels cool slightly before serving.
