- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Pita bread or wraps (for serving)
- Tzatziki sauce or garlic sauce (for serving)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes.
- Stir in the cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the spices to bloom.
- Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley.
- Serve the ground beef shawarma in pita bread or wraps, drizzled with tzatziki sauce or garlic sauce.
Notes
- You can use ground lamb or a mixture of ground beef and lamb for a richer flavor.
