A flavorful Greek-inspired dish featuring tender marinated chicken, fresh grilled veggies, and homemade creamy tzatziki sauce wrapped in warm pita bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced into strips
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 tomato, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add chicken strips and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare tzatziki sauce by combining Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, dill, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt. Refrigerate.
  3. Grill or pan-fry chicken strips until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes per side.
  4. Grill red onion and bell pepper slices for 2-3 minutes until slightly charred.
  5. Warm pita bread on the grill or in a skillet for 1 minute per side.
  6. Assemble gyros by placing chicken, grilled veggies, and tomato slices on pita. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce.
  7. Fold and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best flavor, marinate chicken overnight.
  • Use full-fat Greek yogurt for creamier tzatziki.
  • Wrap gyros in foil for easy eating.
