Description
This classic French toast recipe is easy to make and perfect for breakfast or brunch. With golden-brown edges and a fluffy center, each slice is deliciously sweet and satisfying.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 slices of bread (preferably thick-cut)
- Butter or oil for frying
- Maple syrup, for serving
- Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat and add a little butter or oil to coat the surface.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side. Let the excess drip off.
- Place the soaked bread onto the hot griddle or skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the French toast from the pan and keep warm in the oven if necessary while you cook the remaining slices.
- Serve warm with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use brioche or challah bread.
- Add toppings like fresh fruit, whipped cream, or nuts for extra flavor and texture.
- Make a larger batch by doubling the ingredients and cooking in batches.
