This French Toast Casserole is a delicious and easy breakfast dish that’s perfect for feeding a crowd. It’s rich, custardy, and topped with a sweet streusel that makes it irresistible!

- 1 loaf of French bread, cut into cubes
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Maple syrup, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cubed French bread to the egg mixture and gently fold to coat the bread evenly. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to soak.
- While the bread is soaking, prepare the streusel topping by mixing together the melted butter, brown sugar, flour, and nutmeg in a separate bowl until crumbly.
- Transfer the soaked bread mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the streusel topping over the bread mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
Notes
- You can prepare this casserole the night before and refrigerate it. Just add an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
- Feel free to add fruits like berries or bananas to the bread mixture for added flavor.
