- 1 loaf of French bread, cut into cubes
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)
- Powdered sugar (for serving)
- Fresh berries (for serving, optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Place the cubed French bread into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Gently press down any bread that is floating on top.
- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 4 hours).
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish.
- Bake the French toast bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries if desired.
