- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a large oven-safe skillet, cook beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add butter and onions to the skillet. Cook until onions are soft and caramelized.
- Stir in rice, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Cover and bake for 25 minutes or until rice is tender.
- Remove from oven, sprinkle with cheese, and broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use homemade beef broth.
- Swap Gruyère for Swiss cheese if preferred.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
