Description

A classic French Dip Sandwich featuring tender, flavorful roast beef served on a crusty roll, accompanied by a rich and savory au jus.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 4 French rolls or hoagie buns
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Provolone or Swiss cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until they are caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  2. In another pot, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Add the caramelized onions to the broth mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Slice the French rolls in half and place them on a baking sheet. If using cheese, place a slice on each roll.
  6. Layer the sliced roast beef evenly on the bottom halves of the rolls.
  7. Toast the rolls in the oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the rolls are crispy.
  8. Serve the sandwiches with a small bowl of the au jus for dipping.
