- 1 lb roast beef, thinly sliced
- 4 French rolls or hoagie buns
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Provolone or Swiss cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until they are caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- In another pot, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the caramelized onions to the broth mixture and stir to combine.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the French rolls in half and place them on a baking sheet. If using cheese, place a slice on each roll.
- Layer the sliced roast beef evenly on the bottom halves of the rolls.
- Toast the rolls in the oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the rolls are crispy.
- Serve the sandwiches with a small bowl of the au jus for dipping.
