Description

A classic fair food, corn dogs are hot dogs coated in a cornmeal batter and deep-fried until golden brown. Perfect for parties or a fun weekend treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 6 hot dogs
  • Wooden skewers or sticks
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and sugar.
  2. In another bowl, mix the milk and egg until combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  3. Preheat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 375°F (190°C).
  4. While the oil is heating, insert wooden skewers into each hot dog.
  5. Dip each hot dog into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
  6. Carefully place the battered hot dogs into the hot oil, frying a few at a time until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with mustard or ketchup.
