Classic Apple Pie: The Perfect Recipe for a Timeless Dessert

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour (Plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (Cold and cubed)
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar (For the crust)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons Ice water
  • 6 cups Apples (Peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended))
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 Egg yolk (For egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Milk (For egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Divide dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  4. In another bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat evenly.
  5. Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Place the rolled-out dough in the dish and fill with the apple mixture.
  6. Roll out the second disc of dough and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal. Cut slits on top to allow steam to escape.
  7. Mix egg yolk and milk in a small bowl. Brush the mixture over the crust.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
  9. Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of vanilla extract to the apple filling.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a classic combination.
