- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
- Add the egg, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll the dough out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over the top.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the icing.
- Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add chopped nuts or raisins to the filling.
- These cinnamon rolls can be prepared the night before; just cover the rolled dough and refrigerate overnight, then let them rise in the morning before baking.
