Description

This rich and creamy homemade chocolate ice cream is the perfect treat for chocolate lovers. It’s easy to make and requires only a few ingredients, making it a delightful dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt over medium heat until the mixture is smooth and the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.
  3. Once cooled, cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled.
  4. Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, typically about 20-25 minutes.
  5. If using, add the chocolate chips during the last 5 minutes of churning.
  6. Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours to firm up before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder.
  • If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can pour the mixture into a shallow dish and freeze it, stirring every 30 minutes until it’s creamy and frozen.
