Description
A classic Italian-American dish featuring breaded chicken cutlets topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
- Set up a breading station: Place flour in one shallow dish, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in a third.
- Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess, then dip in eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, pressing to adhere.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Transfer the chicken to a baking dish. Top each piece with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add garlic powder or Italian seasoning to the breadcrumbs.
- Serve with pasta or a side salad for a complete meal.
- You can use store-bought marinara sauce or make your own for a fresher taste.
