Chicken Gyros with Tzatziki Sauce: Juicy & Authentic in 25 Minutes

  • Author: ushinzomr

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pita bread
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • For the Tzatziki Sauce:
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken thighs and coat them well with the marinade. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. While the chicken marinates, prepare the tzatziki sauce. In a bowl, mix together Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, dill, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken thighs and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and golden brown.
  4. Remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into strips.
  5. Warm the pita bread in the skillet for about 30 seconds on each side.
  6. To assemble the gyros, place the sliced chicken in the warm pita, and top with lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, feta cheese, and a generous drizzle of tzatziki sauce.
  7. Wrap the pita and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken for longer if you have time.
  • You can also add additional toppings like olives or bell peppers if desired.
  • Store any leftover tzatziki sauce in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
