Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita bread
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- For the Tzatziki Sauce:
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken thighs and coat them well with the marinade. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- While the chicken marinates, prepare the tzatziki sauce. In a bowl, mix together Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, dill, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt. Set aside.
- Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken thighs and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and golden brown.
- Remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into strips.
- Warm the pita bread in the skillet for about 30 seconds on each side.
- To assemble the gyros, place the sliced chicken in the warm pita, and top with lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, feta cheese, and a generous drizzle of tzatziki sauce.
- Wrap the pita and serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the chicken for longer if you have time.
- You can also add additional toppings like olives or bell peppers if desired.
- Store any leftover tzatziki sauce in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
