Description
Capirotada is a traditional Mexican bread pudding made with layers of bread, syrup, and various spices.
Ingredients

- 4 cups of bolillo or French bread, sliced
- 2 cups of water
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of raisins
- 1/2 cup of chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of cloves
- 1 cup of queso fresco or mozzarella cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, combine water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring to a boil and simmer until sugar dissolves.
- Layer half of the bread slices in a baking dish.
- Sprinkle half of the raisins and nuts over the bread.
- Pour half of the syrup over the layer.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, raisins, nuts, and syrup.
- Top with shredded cheese.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
- Can be topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
