A creamy and flavorful butter chicken dish that is easy to make and perfect for a weeknight dinner.

- 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup (240ml) plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons garam masala
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato puree
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish
- Cooked basmati rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, turmeric, cumin, chili powder, and salt. Add chicken pieces and coat well. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and ginger, and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add marinated chicken to the skillet. Cook until chicken is no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in tomato puree and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes.
- Add heavy cream and stir to combine. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Adjust seasoning with salt to taste. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
- Serve hot with cooked basmati rice.
Notes
- For added flavor, use a mix of spices for marinating the chicken.
- Adjust the level of heat by modifying the amount of chili powder used.
- This dish can also be made in a slow cooker for convenience.
