bread pudding recipe: The Perfect Comfort Dessert for Any Occasion

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

This classic bread pudding recipe is a comforting dessert made with stale bread, eggs, milk, and spices. It’s warm, custardy, and perfect for using up leftover bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins or dried fruit (optional)
  • Butter for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and raisins (if using).
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  5. Pour the liquid mixture over the cubed bread and gently stir until the bread is fully soaked.
  6. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
  7. Pour the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • You can substitute the raisins with chocolate chips or nuts if desired.
  • For added flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of bourbon to the custard mixture.
