- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon Baking powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- 3/4 cup Milk (plus extra for brushing)
- 1 pound Ground breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup All-purpose flour (for gravy)
- 2 cups Milk (for gravy)
- 1 teaspoon Black pepper (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt (for gravy) (or to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the milk until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently 3-4 times. Pat into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Cut the dough into biscuits using a round cutter and place on a baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with milk and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually stir in the milk, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Cook until the gravy thickens, then season with salt and pepper.
- Serve biscuits warm, topped with sausage gravy.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add herbs like thyme or sage to the sausage.
- Make the biscuits ahead of time and reheat before serving.
- Feel free to substitute sausage with turkey sausage or a vegetarian option.
