  • 3/4 cup Milk (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 pound Ground breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups Milk (for gravy)
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt (for gravy) (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the milk until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently 3-4 times. Pat into a 1-inch thick circle.
  6. Cut the dough into biscuits using a round cutter and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Brush the tops with milk and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
  9. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  10. Gradually stir in the milk, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  11. Cook until the gravy thickens, then season with salt and pepper.
  12. Serve biscuits warm, topped with sausage gravy.

  • Make the biscuits ahead of time and reheat before serving.
