This overnight baked French toast is the perfect make-ahead breakfast for a crowd! Soft, custardy bread baked to perfection and topped with a sweet syrup.

- 1 loaf of French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup maple syrup
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
- Arrange the slices of French bread in the dish, overlapping them slightly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the plastic wrap and pour the melted butter over the top of the bread.
- Drizzle maple syrup over the bread as well.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider adding fruits like blueberries or sliced bananas between the layers of bread.
- You can prepare the French toast mixture up to 24 hours in advance for a quick breakfast option.
