Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 4 pita breads or flatbreads
- 1 cup lettuce, shredded
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 cucumber, diced
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup tahini sauce or garlic sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine olive oil, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Add the sliced beef and mix until well coated. Marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef slices and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
- While the beef is cooking, prepare your pita or flatbreads. Warm them on the grill or in a skillet for a minute on each side.
- Assemble the shawarma sandwiches by placing a generous amount of beef on each pita or flatbread.
- Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, cucumber, red onion, and a drizzle of tahini or garlic sauce.
- Wrap the sandwich tightly and serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra flavor, consider adding pickles or spicy peppers to your sandwich.
- Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste preference.
- Serve with extra tahini or garlic sauce on the side for dipping.
