This beef shawarma sandwich is loaded with juicy, marinated beef and fresh toppings, making it the ultimate street food experience!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4 pita breads or flatbreads
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup tahini sauce or garlic sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine olive oil, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Add the sliced beef and mix until well coated. Marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  2. Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef slices and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
  3. While the beef is cooking, prepare your pita or flatbreads. Warm them on the grill or in a skillet for a minute on each side.
  4. Assemble the shawarma sandwiches by placing a generous amount of beef on each pita or flatbread.
  5. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, cucumber, red onion, and a drizzle of tahini or garlic sauce.
  6. Wrap the sandwich tightly and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding pickles or spicy peppers to your sandwich.
  • Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste preference.
  • Serve with extra tahini or garlic sauce on the side for dipping.
