Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita breads
- 1 cup lettuce, shredded
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup tahini sauce or garlic sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the bowl and mix well to ensure the meat is evenly coated with the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
- While the beef is cooking, prepare the pita breads by warming them in a separate pan or microwave.
- Once the beef is cooked, assemble the shawarma: place some beef on each pita, then top with lettuce, tomato, onion, and drizzle with tahini or garlic sauce.
- Fold the pita around the filling and serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra flavor, let the beef marinate for longer if you have time.
- You can customize your shawarma with additional toppings like pickles or hot sauce.
- Serve with a side of hummus or salad for a complete meal.
