Description

This beef shawarma recipe features tender, spiced beef wrapped in warm pita bread and topped with fresh vegetables and a creamy sauce. Perfect for a delicious homemade meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread, for serving
  • Fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers), for topping
  • Tahini sauce or garlic sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, yogurt, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the sliced beef to the marinade, making sure it is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated beef for about 5-7 minutes, or until browned and cooked to your liking.
  4. Remove from heat and let the beef rest for a few minutes before slicing it into smaller pieces.
  5. To assemble the shawarma, place a generous portion of beef in the center of a pita bread, add fresh vegetables, and drizzle with tahini or garlic sauce.
  6. Wrap the pita around the filling, slice in half, and serve immediately.
