- 2 lbs beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pita bread, for serving
- Fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers), for topping
- Tahini sauce or garlic sauce, for drizzling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, yogurt, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
- Add the sliced beef to the marinade, making sure it is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated beef for about 5-7 minutes, or until browned and cooked to your liking.
- Remove from heat and let the beef rest for a few minutes before slicing it into smaller pieces.
- To assemble the shawarma, place a generous portion of beef in the center of a pita bread, add fresh vegetables, and drizzle with tahini or garlic sauce.
- Wrap the pita around the filling, slice in half, and serve immediately.
