Description

Juicy and flavorful beef shawarma made with a blend of spices, marinated to perfection and cooked to tender perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread or flatbreads for serving
  • Toppings: sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and tahini sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine olive oil, yogurt, garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Remove the beef from the marinade and let any excess marinade drip off.
  5. Cook the beef slices on the grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until nicely browned and cooked through.
  6. Remove from heat and let the beef rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips.
  7. Serve the beef shawarma in pita bread or flatbreads, topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and a drizzle of tahini sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding lemon juice to the marinade.
  • If you have a shawarma spice blend, you can use it instead of individual spices.
  • You can also cook the beef in an oven or a slow cooker if preferred.
