Description
Juicy and flavorful beef shawarma made with a blend of spices, marinated to perfection and cooked to tender perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon ground paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pita bread or flatbreads for serving
- Toppings: sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and tahini sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine olive oil, yogurt, garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
- Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Remove the beef from the marinade and let any excess marinade drip off.
- Cook the beef slices on the grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until nicely browned and cooked through.
- Remove from heat and let the beef rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips.
- Serve the beef shawarma in pita bread or flatbreads, topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and a drizzle of tahini sauce.
Notes
- For extra flavor, consider adding lemon juice to the marinade.
- If you have a shawarma spice blend, you can use it instead of individual spices.
- You can also cook the beef in an oven or a slow cooker if preferred.
