Description
These air fryer candy apples bring the classic carnival treat to your kitchen with a crispy, glossy finish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples, firm variety — Granny Smith or Fuji recommended
- 2 cups (400g) granulated white sugar
- 1/2 cup (120ml) light corn syrup
- 3/4 cup (180ml) water
- 1/2 teaspoon red gel food coloring
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon extract (optional)
- 6 wooden candy apple sticks
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Parchment paper or silicone baking mat
Instructions
- Prepare your air fryer basket by lining it with parchment paper and spraying it with non-stick cooking spray.
- Remove all wax from your apples by dipping them in boiling water for 5 seconds, then scrub dry with a rough towel. Insert a stick into each apple firmly.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir gently until moistened. Clip a candy thermometer to the side of the pan.
- Heat the mixture over medium-high heat until it reaches a full rolling boil. Use a wet pastry brush to wipe down any sugar crystals on the pan’s sides.
- Boil without stirring until the candy thermometer reads between 300°F and 310°F (149°C–154°C). This should take about 15-20 minutes.
- Once the temperature reaches 300°F, remove the pan from heat and stir in food coloring and cinnamon extract. Allow bubbles to settle for 1-2 minutes.
- Tilt the saucepan and dip each apple into the syrup, allowing excess to drip back for 3-4 seconds. Place each apple stick-side up in the air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 300°F for 5-7 minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the syrup reaches 300°F for a hard shell.
- Wait for bubbles to settle before dipping apples.
- Store candy apples at room temperature, uncovered.
