Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 34 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (180°C).
  2. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. This helps to ensure crispy skin.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, thyme, and rosemary.
  4. Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, making sure to get under the skin and inside the cavity.
  5. Stuff the cavity of the chicken with the lemon halves.
  6. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket breast side down. Cook for 30 minutes.
  7. After 30 minutes, carefully flip the chicken over so it is breast side up. Cook for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  8. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.
  9. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, you can cook the chicken for an additional 5 minutes after it reaches the desired internal temperature.
  • Feel free to customize the spice rub according to your preferences.
