Description
Crispy, juicy air fryer fried chicken that’s easy to make and tastes just like the classic deep-fried version, but with less oil!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds chicken pieces
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- as needed cooking spray
Instructions
- In a large bowl, soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the chicken pieces in a single layer in the basket. Do not overcrowd.
- Spray the chicken pieces lightly with cooking spray.
- Cook in the air fryer for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
- Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For extra crispy chicken, double dip the chicken in buttermilk and flour.
- Adjust cooking time based on the size of your chicken pieces.
- Feel free to add your favorite spices to the flour mixture for extra flavor.
