Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken pieces
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • as needed cooking spray

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
  5. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the chicken pieces in a single layer in the basket. Do not overcrowd.
  6. Spray the chicken pieces lightly with cooking spray.
  7. Cook in the air fryer for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  8. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispy chicken, double dip the chicken in buttermilk and flour.
  • Adjust cooking time based on the size of your chicken pieces.
  • Feel free to add your favorite spices to the flour mixture for extra flavor.
