Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs, bone-in, skin-on
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, soak the chicken thighs in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator for best results.
  2. In another bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper together.
  3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour, pressing down to ensure an even coating.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray.
  5. Place the coated chicken thighs in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they are not touching.
  6. Spray the tops of the chicken with a little cooking spray to help them crisp up.
  7. Cook for 25-30 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the chicken is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove from the air fryer and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, you can double-dip the chicken by returning it to the buttermilk after the first dredge and then dredging again in the flour mixture.
  • Feel free to add your favorite spices to the flour mixture for extra flavor.
  • Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary.
