Description
This air fryer crispy chicken recipe will give you perfectly golden, juicy chicken with a crispy coating. It’s a healthier alternative to frying and is ready in under 30 minutes!
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 chicken thighs, bone-in, skin-on
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- In a bowl, soak the chicken thighs in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator for best results.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper together.
- Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour, pressing down to ensure an even coating.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray.
- Place the coated chicken thighs in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they are not touching.
- Spray the tops of the chicken with a little cooking spray to help them crisp up.
- Cook for 25-30 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the chicken is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the air fryer and let rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For extra crunch, you can double-dip the chicken by returning it to the buttermilk after the first dredge and then dredging again in the flour mixture.
- Feel free to add your favorite spices to the flour mixture for extra flavor.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary.
